Case Gala
“How is it that at those Oscar galas the Americans seem so SINCERE?
That you really believe them when they thank their mother and father, and they are so emotional and so SINCERE — are they actually serious, when it LOOKS like they MEAN it? How can they be so SINCERE?
The phone rings.
GRANDFATHER shouts: QUIET!”
CASE GALA is a theatrical carousel of childhood memories, shared history, and the collective mind, guiding the audience through layers of the psyche by means of bold scenic juxtapositions.
Alongside ten actors, life-sized puppets of the performers revolve on stage. Objects come alive, an accordion plays — or the Narva march, because Grandpa has died…
The carousel of the mind spins and drills into the depths where the most vivid childhood experiences lie dormant. The performance brings the hidden darkness of the mind into the spotlight of a gala.
“Tapaus Gaala is like a colorful kaleidoscope that reveals startling visions from the depths of memory. The performance is highly experiential — difficult to put into words. I greatly enjoyed the force of imagination that Sippola unleashes. She creates a point of contact in the spectator that lies beneath the surface, somewhere in the subconscious. As a viewer, I moved between joy and laughter, compassion and melancholy. At times it felt like being in a Fellini-esque circus, at times like wandering through the labyrinths of my dreams.”
