Divina Commedia International Theatre Project 2011-12
The Divina Commedia International Theatre Project (2011–2012) was a collaborative European theatre project based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, created by me and supported by the European Union, and realized in Finland and Portugal.
Myllyteatteri acted as the lead organization of the project. Its partners included the Portuguese festival Escrita na Paisagem and the Greek theatre group Art Syndicate.
The project produced two distinct stage works, created through different working methods:
The Divine Comedy in Suvilahti, Helsinki, and as its main production, the site-specific spectacle Divina Commedia 2.0, created in an abandoned marble quarry in Portugal.
In November 2012, the production was invited to Skopje, North Macedonia, to the Skupi Festival. Artists from Finland, Portugal, and Greece adapted the quarry-scale performance for the large stage of the Macedonian National Theatre.
The performance was awarded the Best Performance Award at the Skupi Festival.
