Divine Comedy

The first production of the Divina Commedia International Theatre Project, The Divine Comedy, premiered at Suvilahti’s Tiivistämö in October 2011.

The performance was based on a combination of ensemble improvisations structured around Hell–Purgatory–Paradise, my own script, and commissioned scenes from Finnish contemporary playwrights.

“The Divine Comedy is a travelogue through visions.” — Maria Säkö, Helsingin Sanomat

“Sippola and her group have created a powerful and engaging theatrical experience, which, also in its concise duration, is an insightful adaptation of a historical classic.” — Martti Mäkelä

“Myllyteatteri’s Divine Comedy is visually contemporary, yet timeless in its message.” — Ilona Kangas

“Through the use of physical acting methods (Suzuki and Viewpoint), Sippola unites the large ensemble into a single cohesive whole. Rarely has such intense physical work been more appropriate than here.” – Linnea Stara, HBL, October 14, 2011
