Bio
I am a writer, theatre director, and arts organizer. I was born in Lapua in 1973.
Currently, my work focuses on writing a novel and a poetry collection.
In addition to seven plays and performance scripts, I have written poetry, a radio play, and an opera libretto. My poetry has received the J.H. Erkko Prize (1999 and 2001). My plays have been published in the Kirja kerrallaan series.
My background is in the performing arts. I founded Myllyteatteri, which continues to operate in the independent theatre field. I served as its artistic director and director from 2003 to 2018. Together with my working groups, I created a physical-visual stage language and poetic theatre of the mind. I directed and produced numerous internationally recognized works, performed not only in Finland but also in Italy, Scotland, Poland, Portugal, and Denmark.
The stage work Kolga received the Il Teatro Nudo Award in Milan in 2017. My adaptation of Dante’s Divina Commedia received the Best Performance Award in Skopje, Macedonia, in 2012.
My desire to create total works of art has also led me to organize larger performance concepts such as the Tragedy Competitions at Helsinki Railway Square in 2008 and the Divina Commedia International Theatre Project (2011–2012).
Between 2022 and 2025, I also initiated and organized the Sida vid sida med havet performance art festival, in which churches in the archipelago are transformed into site-specific performance spaces. Under my direction, numerous site-specific works tailored to church spaces have been created with varying artistic ensembles.
As a theatre director, I have worked as a convener. Through Myllyteatteri, I have employed artists for the equivalent of 75 person-years. Through the Sida vid sida festival, I have created artistic work equivalent to four person-years.
I have also been active as an activist in the arts and events sector within the Mitta on täysi working group.
My academic background is in philosophy of religion. I graduated from the University of Helsinki with a Master of Theology in 1999. My thesis explored imagination and the fundamental nature of the creative power of the mind. A philosophical approach is also present in my artistic work
